If a relationship is the the output of unconscious mental processes, the result of a flow of information between two individuals, is it not also possible to have a relationship with oneself? Would "mindfulness" be that kind of relationship, in which instead of proceeding blindly through life, you take mental notes and pass them to yourself for a response? Could art be that response? Art in the broadest, vaguest sense as any type of creation. Along the lines of "love yourself before you can love someone else" (although hopefully a little less trite) I think in order to have a meaningful relationship with the rest of the conscient world one has to pursue this kind of mental inquiry--not self-knowledge in the self-help-book, "what do I feel?" sense, but rather an inner dialogue that informs your understanding of the rest of the world.
